Doberman Pinschers for Sale & Adoption
Dobermans are definite favorites. These large popular dogs are historically known for their prowess as it pertains to guarding property. They've been characterized as being fearless because when an intruder is around, the dog simply does what he or she is supposed to do; quickly neutralize the threat, even if it's dangerous to do so. Like so many other high quality dog breeds, the Doberman Pinscher was first bred in Germany. They were used back then and still today in military and police work, tracking, competition, and as companionship. Today, these dogs are primarily kept as pets, as they're sweet and gentle with children, but adventerous and energetic with adults. Dobermans are great dogs that can truly add to any family.
Continue reading to learn more about Doberman Pinschers, known as affectionate and sweet family dogs as well as highly effective guard dogs.
Popularity: Very popular.
Trainability: The Doberman Pinscher can be almost perfectly trained by the right person. This person definitely needs to be a dog person as well as an experienced trainer though. This breed isn't for the weak-hearted. This can be an aggressive dog at times and it's important to take charge during ownership and while training. Once trained though, this breed is famous for being nearly perfect in regards to obedience.
Size/Weight: Medium sized dogs, weighing in at an average of 60-100 pounds.
Origin Location/Date: Doberman Pinscher, or otherwise more affectionately referred to as "Dobermans" or the "Dobe (Dobie)," was originally bred in Germany during the 1800s and was used almost exclusively for protection. In the late 1800s, this breed was brought to the United States and was used as guard dogs, police dogs and show dogs.
Energy Level: This dog is an active one that needs a lot of exercise. It needs long daily walks, hikes and play time in the back yard. It not only needs this exercise to remain physically fit, it also needs it to maintain its mental fitness. Also, this breed enjoys dog sports, such as obedience, agility and tracking challenges. If you're up for hiking, your Dobe will be too. If you want to go play in the back yard for a while, your Doberman will too.
Temperament: The Doberman can go one of two ways. It can be your best friend for his/her entire life or it can be a fearful and aggressive dog towards almost everyone he meets. With the proper socialization and training very early on during puppyhood, you'll find this dog to be intelligent, extremely trainable and loyal. Even affectionate. This is an outgoing dog that is full of energy, very watchful, highly determined and uncannily alert and obedient. If you keep this dog close with your family, it will be a well adjusted and friendly dog. If you don't pay much attention to it and don't give it the attention it deserves, things won't turn out well and someone can get hurt.
Necessary Space: Being a larger dog that needs a lot of room in which to play and exercise, this dog isn't the best one for living in smaller homes and apartments. To own this dog and to keep it happy, you'll need to walk it frequently and to play with it outdoors. The Doberman Pinscher also enjoys what's referred to as "free play," so letting it loose in a fenced in or enclosed area is a great way for this dog to get some exercise. A large home with lots of property is the best.
Talents: One of the most popular dogs available today. An excellent guard dog and remarkably trainable, yet family friendly, sweet and affectionate.
Life Expectancy: 10-12 years.
Group: Working Group.
