Olde English Bulldogges for Sale & Adoption
Olde English Bulldogges are taller and have different shaped heads than their more traditional English Bulldog counterparts. Many folks become confused between the two dogs. If you're looking into one of these breeds of dogs, do some priliminary research to square away which is which. Overall, this breed is very friendly, companionable, and great with families. Although is may look imposing at times with its muscular build, these dogs are actually quite docile and great around children.
Continue reading to learn more about Olde English Bulldogges, a cross between a purebred English Bulldog, American Bulldog, American Pit Bull Terrier, and Bullmastiff.
Popularity: Somewhat popular.
Trainability: Like so many dogs, the Olde English Bulldogge is sensitive to the tone of its master's or trainer's voice. This is a double edged sword. It can make the dog easier to train because of its sensitivity and it can make it somewhat skittish if the trainer's voice is too harsh. Train with consistency and patience with this dog and you'll be successful. There is a stubborn streak in the breed, so use treats and praise to further your progress.
Size/Weight: Medium to large sized dogs, weighing in at an average of 50-80 pounds.
Origin Location/Date: In an effort to bring back yesterday's English Bulldog, a mix between the English Bulldog, American Bulldog, American Pit Bull Terrier, and Bullmastiff was devised in the mid to second half of the 1900s in the United States. Today, the breed is recognized by the APRI, CKC, OREBA, NKC, and CKC and is popular with those who enjoy owning an attractive and strong family pet.
Energy Level: While these dogs enjoy good long walks and lots of play, they aren't strung out and hyper by any means. If you want to work this dog, you'll need to condition it for that type of activity. Otherwise, they're only moderately energetic and a few nice walks per day and some playtime should suffice.
Temperament: There are two sides to the Olde English Bulldogge. One is protective, strong, determined, and fearless and the other is a couch potato, sweet, loving, friendly, and affectionate. These really are friendly dogs. They enjoy the company of their family, love to play and roll around on the floor as well jump around a bit in the back yard. A word of warning though; if you have other animals in the home, be sure to raise this dog from puppyhood alongside them. If you miss this chance, the Olde English Bulldogge may chase them, due to its prey drive.
Necessary Space: Being a medium to large sized dog, you'll want to give the Olde English Bulldogge space to play and run. By the same token, this isn't a terrible dog to have live in an apartment with you, as long as you exercise it regularly. It isn't an excitable dog, so smaller spaces are generally okay.
Talents: The Olde English Bulldogge is a great looking dog and a fierce protector. At the same time, it's a wonderful family pet that's good around children.
Life Expectancy: 11-13 years.
Group: Not Applicable/Designer Breed.
