Initially bred in Australia in the 1980s, the Labradoodle is a combination of the best of both worlds; the brains and low allergy coat of the Poodle and the sporting and energetic capabilities of the Lab. Trainability: The Labradoodle is an easy dog to train. Since it's intelligent and eager to please, you shouldn't have any issues at all, especially when it comes to training basic commands. As always, socialize the dog when it's still a puppy and begin obedience training then as well. Also, be sure to continue on with the training into adulthood and be sure to play games and engage in activities as well. This will keep the dog mentally stimulated as much as possible, which is necessary for this breed.

Size/Weight: Varied sized dogs, weighing in at an average of 15-100 pounds (depending on which Poodle is mixed, Toy or Standard).

Origin Location/Date: The first recorded Labradoodle was bred in Australia in 1989. After that breeding, this dog became very popular due to its temperament, coat and intelligence. Folks in the United States began breeding this mix of dogs soon after and the popularity of the Labradoodle has been growing ever since. It's important to note that since this breed is a designer dog mix, it's not registerable with the American Kennel Club. It can, however, be registered with the American Canine Hybrid Club.

Energy Level: The Labradoodle isn't an overly energetic dog, but it's not lazy either. It needs a moderate amount of daily exercise to keep it sharp, fit and healthy. Be sure to walk this dog daily as well as keep it mentally stimulated with games and activities such as chase the ball, hide and go seek and so on.

Temperament: If you're looking for a guard dog, keep looking. The Labradoodle doesn't make a good guard dog at all. This is because he makes friends everywhere he goes. He's outgoing, smart, good with children, families, and other animals in the home or in the park. This is a mildly to somewhat energetic dog that's fun to be around and instantly part of the family.

Necessary Space: The space requirements for the Labradoodle completely depend on who the parents were and the size of the dog. If it's one of the larger breeds, then it's more likely to be more energetic and will require more space in which to live. Apartments aren't a good choice for this version. It will need room to run and play. If the Lab was bred with a Toy Poodle, then chances are the dog will be less energetic and smaller, which would be fine to live in an apartment.

Talents: Labradoodles are simply good all around dogs. They're excellent service dogs due to their temperament, intelligence, and trainability. They're playful and fun and a great dog.
