Today, they're mainly close companions to those pet owners who appreciate dogs with strong devotion to family and that are good with kids. If you've got allergies and are into smaller dogs, you may want to look at the Lhasa Apso as your next dog because their hair doesn't shed much at all. Their hair is on the longer side though, so it'll require weekly grooming, at least.
