Beagles for Sale & Adoption
You've likely heard the distinctive bark that comes from a Beagle. It's sort of like a howl, a yelp, and a regular bark all wrapped up in one. Beagles are extremely popular dogs across the entire United States and abroad and have been well loved and considered excellent family dogs through the ages. They're great at hunting and tracking and they've got noses and scenting abilities that are nearly second to none. Well, perhaps they're second to the famed Bloodhound. These are short dogs that are highly intelligent. They're also happy and energetic, but can be loud at times. Yes, that Beagle bark is something that needs to be dealt with or lived with. The Beagle is happy to please its master, is curious, and is tough to stop when it catches the scent of something. If not leashed, they may just take off in an effort to find the source and if leashed, they'll tug and pull to in an effort to do the same. These are relatively small dogs who love being around their families. They're entertaining and playful and just about everything else.

Popularity: Very popular.
Trainability: Being initially bred as hunting dogs, Beagles can be quite independently minded and stubborn. But, with consistent and patiently administered obedience classes, this breed of dog can become a wonderful household pet. They're eager to please and can be quite well behaved. A word of warning though; they can get themselves into trouble from time to time, so keep an eye on them, even after training.
Size/Weight: Small sized dogs, weighing in at an average of 20-25 pounds.
Origin Location/Date: It seems like the Beagle dog has been around forever. Actually, it's been bred in England and France for rabbit hunting since the 1300s and can be traced back as far as 500 BC in Greece for a variety of purposes. This breed of dog was introduced to North America since Europeans landed here, so it's got a long history.
Energy Level: Beagles are active and energetic dogs and it's no wonder why. They've been bred as hunting pack dogs through the centuries. They do make wonderful pets for the home though and will need at least an hour of good exercise every day. They become lonely if left alone, so it's best for them to have a friend, whether that friend be human or animal. Also, Beagles aren't great guard dogs and can be timid around new people at times.
Temperament: Beagles are generally very nice dogs to have around. They've been described as loving and lovable, caring and compassionate by those who have owned them. They're great as a family dog and they're wonderful around children.
Necessary Space: Beagles can live just fine in smaller apartments due to their small size, but they will need room to run and play on a regular basis. With this small dog breed, exercise is also critical to avoid becoming overweight. Remember, Beagles can be jumpy and active, so it's best that they get their necessary daily exercise and play time.
Talents: Wonderful and friendly family pets and running partners. The Beagle breed loves to run.
Life Expectancy: 10-15 years.
Group: Hound group.
