The Pomsky is a mix between the Pomeranian and the Siberian Husky. They most often look like little miniature Huskies. These dogs are spirited, energetic, great watchdogs, and very playful and active. They're great pets because they're loving around children and adults alike. The Pomsky is a highly intelligent creature, just like its parents, so go ahead and take a look at this adorable dog today.

Continue reading to learn more about Pomskies, a mix between the Pomeranian and Siberian Husky. Oftentimes considered a miniature Husky.

Popularity: Somewhat popular.

Trainability: If you start during puppyhood and use positive reinforcement and a reward system with treats, your Pomsky will likely learn rather quickly. And really, the sooner the better when it comes to this breed. At just a few weeks old is best to begin. If you wait too long, as with many other breeds, you'll have a much more stubborn and headstrong dog to deal with. Also be sure to enroll your puppy into puppy training classes. These will not only teach obedience and other important skills, it'll also socialize the dog, which is extremely important with this breed. Bring your Pomsky around other dogs, household pets and people as much as possible when he's young.

Size/Weight: Medium sized dogs, weighing in at an average of 20-30 pounds.

Origin Location/Date: It's not clear when the first Pomeranian and Siberian Husky were mixed to create the Pomsky, but it is clear that this dog has become much more popular over the last two decades in the United States (since 2000). After the breed took off, fans formed the Pomsky Club of America in an effort to get the breed recognized by the American Kennel Club.

Energy Level: Pomskies are moderately active dogs. He'll usually get most of his daily exercise requirements by playing indoors as well as during his daily walks. If he's into it, definitely bring your Pomsky to the park for some play time and engage in some catch in your back yard as well. These dogs can keep up with the best of them.

Temperament: The temperament of the Pomsky obviously depends on the temperament of his parents. Since this breed isn't established yet and since there is no set characteristics that are reliable when it comes to this dog, it's tough to say what they'll act like in everyday life. In general though, Pomskies can be unpredictable when it comes to young children, so caution is necessary. Older children are fine, but keep an eye on the young ones. One of the issues is that young children don't know how to treat dogs and they may tease them, causing issues. While Pomskies get along with their immediate families, it's common that the dog will bond with just one person in the household. Also, since this dog is a mix between the Pomeranian and the Husky, there's a tendency for it to chase other pets in the house. Please be careful with that and be sure to socialize this dog with family pets from a very young age. If your Pomsky is an older adoption, keep it away from cats and other small animals. The trick with these dogs is to buy them young and train and socialize the heck out of them.

Necessary Space: Since the Pomsky's exercise requirement aren't too great and since this isn't the most energetic dog on the planet, it should do fine living in an apartment. It's small to medium size should keep him as well as the other occupants of the property happy.

Talents: The true talent of the Pomsky revolves around his cuteness factor. Everyone loves this dog when they see it. Also, depending on who the dog's parents were and how they acted, you can end up with a variety of character traits. Spend time with the dog before you adopt or purchase him to get to know him. It'll be time well spent.

Life Expectancy: 12-15 years.

Group: Not Applicable/Designer Breed.

A few terms and phrases to describe the typical Pomsky puppy and dog: active, energetic, intelligent, loving, playful, self-assured, good guard dogs, good watch dogs, companionable, and medium exercise requirements.
