Here's a fun fact for you: The Himalayan is actually a type of Persian. Actually, it's the most popular type of Persian. Not many folks know this. The Himalayan comes in quite a few colors; over a dozen. These colors range from blue to chocolate tortie to seal lynx to lilac cream. When describing the specific color range of this breed of cat, you're basically describing those colors that are on the face only. The various shades on the body aren't included.

The Himalayan cat was developed by crossing Persians with Siamese. This is what gives them the distinct charactersitics of both cats. Through the many iterations of breeding, the Himalayan was approved by various associations as a type of Persian. Of course, this particular cat needs to meet certain very strict requirements to be considered as such.

Himalayans can live quite a long time. As with any other type of cat, keeping this one indoors can extend its life tremendously. These cats can easily live between 15 and 20 years. By keeping the cat indoors, you are essentially protecting it from predators as well as disease. Along with its habitat though, it's important to keep this specific cat on an appropriate diet as well as keep it up to date with its veterinary care. Those vet visits will screen out any potential genetic diseases, which will obviously extend that cat's life as well. As it pertains to Himalayans specifically, as long as the cat is cared for well, it shouldn't be susceptible to any disease beyond those of another breed. But since this breed does have very large and vulnerable eyes, it's important to keep its face clean so dirt doesn't fall into those eyes.

Himalayans are well loved for their outstanding fur. It's luxurious and people absolutely love petting these cats. It's no secret that this breed is extremely popular. With its affectionate, sweet, gentle, and loving personality, this cat makes itself a part of the household rather quickly. But as with most other cats, when you bring this breed into your home, there will be a transition period. Once that period is over though, you should see this cat come right out of its shell.

As long as its environment has some sort of regularity to it, the Himalayan should thrive, even if the environment is somewhat active. This breed likes to know what's coming, day after day. It's not fond of change or surprises. As it pertains to the sounds this cat makes, its moew is soft and cute. This isn't an overly talkative breed of cat. The Himalayan is a wonderful house cat for young children as well as adults. This is a charming and companionable type of cat. Remember though, the build of these cats doesn't lend itself well to acrobatics, so don't encourage him or her to jump far distances or climb many things. This is a much more stout build of cat that does well when it's firmly planted on the ground. Playing, of course. During the day and night, you'll likely see the Himalyan playing, lying on a windowsill or chair or simply lounging around its most favored spot.
