Egyptian Maus are very interesting cats and as an owner, you may find some magic in their outstanding spotted fur, their super intelligence, and their unparalleled loyalty to those they decide to love. While these certainly are domestic cats, while observing one, you may notice some characteristics that have been held over from days long past. Such characteristics may be their Cheetah-like gait or extra skin near the legs that gives them the tremendous ability to jump and twist like they do so well.
It's a widely held belief that these cats are extremely good looking and as such, more and more people around the world want to own one as a pet. But besides their looks, folks simply can't stop themselves from adoring this breed's enchanting personality traits. While these cats do behave in many ways similar to other breeds, they tend to take things to another level. Also, if an Egyptian Mau has already become familiar with you, it'll tend to be very friendly towards you. If he or she doesn't know you though, you can expect the cat to act hesitantly and cautiously around you. These cats also regularly choose one person to spend most of their time with. This is "their person." When home and in familiar surroundings, you'll likely see one of these cats playing and acting incredibly freely. It's a hoot to watch. They're curious and highly companionable.
When it comes to family life, the Egyptian Mau likes to be a part of everything. This isn't the type of cat to shy away and let others steal the show. This one will walk right out in the middle of everyone and steal it for him or herself. The breed, while playful and energetic at times, is mostly much less active than some of the more active breeds. It does have insanely fast reflexes though, so keep that in mind when it's playtime, when you think you can win the game. Being the wonderful companions Egyptian Maus are, they'll interact with you on a daily basis. They'll sit right on your shoulder if you're resting on the couch, they'll check out what's inside the refrigerator as you're looking inside for yourself, and they'll wake you up in the morning unapologetically. While this breed enjoys being handled and spending time with many people, it'll let you know when he or she wants to play or be held. This isn't the completely laid back type you might expect elsewhere. This cat is sort of the boss.
