Angus 2.5 year old healthy, fixed, male, Husky mix. Rabies current until October. This dog is in urgent need of placement. He was surrendered to us in February when it was either he left or the owners went homeless. His papa was dying so mom let him go. We took him in with the understanding that we would hold him until June and if we could find him a home we would. In the meantime we would work on his training and evaluate him. Sadly, the home they had lined up for him is no longer able to take him in due to his aggression issues.
This dog has the potential to be a great sweet dog but he had a bad start in life from the moment of conception. His parents and grandparents were full siblings so he’s badly inbred. When he was old enough to drink and eat, the others would attack him, making him a resource guarder. He has bit both animals and humans but so far thankfully nothing serious. Minor wounds causing a small amount of bleeding. We have worked with him on crate training which he’s so much better about and working on minor commands and leash training. I have worked with animals like him before but I’m not in a position to keep him as we have a houseful of people and animals. He’s been around animals and while he can be great he’s unpredictable. He snapped at our GSD when he 1st met her. After slow introductions he played with her for weeks like they were best buddies. I went out to work in the garden one day while they played and heard the moment it went from play to attack. He responded the moment I yelled at him and she was able to get away from him. She had a small cut on her lower lip and her throat/lower jaw were wet from where he was holding on to her. That was weeks ago and she still avoids him. She’s a pansy princess.
This dog needs one-on-one attention which I can not provide. He can be around other animals with close supervision. He was raised around cats but our cat is not dog friendly so he has not been around cats since February.
Due to his aggression issues and our houseful we need him gone asap. We have tried even going to out of state rescues but nobody has room. Shelters are full or are not in a position to take him in. We’ve tried contacting animal control but all we are getting is that since he’s aggressive he should be put down. We’ve tried that route too but the vets say that they can’t or won’t do it since there is hope for him. I’m not in a position to keep working with him due to health issues and our houseful (with him 11 dogs, 6 people, and a cat). My health is declining and I just can’t do this anymore while I’m working with my doctors and new treatments, his special needs are being neglected. He is healthy and just needs to be worked with by someone who knows the breed and can handle working with his aggression.
We are backed into a corner and can’t do this. While it would be wonderful if we could get updates on him I’m more interested in giving him a chance at life rather than being left with no choices.
We have a crate that while it can’t be taken apart due to rusty screws it’s big enough for him and is a solid furniture type crate. It will require a vehicle that can haul it. Our Dodge Journey could not handle it. My son picked it up with his Ranger for us. He came with toys that we can’t allow him to have due to his aggression issues that can go with him. We have the letter he came with, his rabies certificate, and our surrender form. We will require an adoption form to be signed stating you understand that he has aggression issues. Please if there is anyone that can take him in please contact me.
